The Police (Detention and Bail) Act 2011 has received Royal Assent and is now law. The Act reverses the effect of R (Greater Manchester Police) v Hookway. The Act provides that periods on bail do not count towards the total detention period.
Following the Breaking the Cycle Green Paper, the Government has published its formal response to the consultation. It has also published the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill.
