Developing & commissioning

We know that high quality development and commissioning is critical to ensuring an effective AA scheme. That's why we're working to help make that a reality in every area.

If you have responsibility for researching, developing or commissioning an appropriate adult scheme for your  local area, we can help you in the following ways.

National guidance

What is it?

An online knowledgebase providing practical information and guidance on achieving effective AA services for children and/or vulnerable adults that meet thenational standards, via the:

  • development of in-house schemes (e.g. managed and provided directly by a youth offending team or social services) and/or
  • commissioning of contracted provision.

Bespoke advice

What is it?

NAAN has a wealth of experience advising commissioners as they research the market and develop their specifications. We can provide bespoke advice by email, phone or virtual meetings.

Equally, if you are not sure that commissioning is the right route for your area, we can support you as you develop an in-house scheme.

Just get in touch via the usual email address or phone number.

Non-members

While we are always happy to hear from commissioners, if you are seeking our bespoke advice we'd ask you to apply for associate membership of NAAN. There's a small fee (essential to our sustainability as a small charity) but we'll save you many times more.

Dynamic purchasing system

What is it?

We are working with a specialist partner to launch the first 'DPS' for appropriate adult provision.

Commissioners are under pressure to do more for less. You face huge challenges when sourcing products and services to help run efficient organisations. You are tasked with delivering value for money and positive community impact. It is important, complex, challenging and resource intensive; but it often feels impossible because budgets and time are so tight.

This AA framework will be ready-made for you to access, deliver value for money and be quick and simple to use. It includes a national template specification developed by NAAN in line with the national standards and ready for you to tailor to local needs, plus a panel of pre-screened prospective providers.

The DPS is currently in development but we plan to launch very soon. If you are interested we'd love to hear from you, so please register your interest

London AA development project

What is it?

We're working with MOPAC, NHS England London Region, the Metropolitan Police and London Councils to ensure effective AA provision across London.

The project is a response to the lack of statutory provision of AAs for vulnerable adults. Significant new funding is available for London local authorities to provide or commission AA services.

In addition, as a partner on the project we can offer councils in London with free information and advice about making the most of this opportunity for their community.

How do I access it?

We've added a London project section to the national guidance. It includes lots of information about the project and how to access the funding.
